About 2 1/2 years ago (December 2009) I compiled a list of 47 t-shirt design contest sites. There have been many changes since then with many sites starting and many closing. That post is basically a wasteland of failed businesses and perhaps in another 2 1/2 years this post will also mostly be failed t-shirt design contests but lets hope not.

As of June 2012, here are the main t-shirt design sites. I have divided them into two categories for your convenience. The lower category doesn’t provide an English version of their website.

T-Shirt Design Contests	About	Prizes
	Threadless Threadless is the original and some might say the best t-shirt design contest site. They release about 10 new t-shirts every week and have an ongoing t-shirt contest that you can submit designs to at any time as well as special themed contests with partners.	$2,000 + $500 Threadless Gift Certificate (can be redeemed for $200 cash). $500 in cash each time your design is reprinted. Alumni Club membership including a Medal of Honor and other goodies. And a host of other chances to earn money
	Design by Humans Design by Humans started just a few years ago but is a very popular destination for t-shirt designers and artists. It holds an ongoing t-shirt design contest as well as the occasional collaboration like the recent Dark Knight Rises contest. DBH is famous for its huge prints and abstract designs.	$1,000 + six (6) units of the artist’s design. If your t-shirt sells a lot and achieves Rock Star status you can receive even more.
	Shirt.Woot! The prizes don’t look so big but don’t let those numbers fool you. Shirt.Woot! is potentially the best place to put your designs. The current longest running t-shirt has been there for 218 weeks as I type this and if I remember correctly, The Binge has sold over 50,000 t-shirts. (Sales totals were removed.)	$500 to $1000 depending on the contract you make with Woot! for the first 3000 shirts sold and $1 to $2 per shirt for every shirt sold after that.
	LaFraise [Closed] This is one of the first European t-shirt design contest sites and is owned by Print-on-Demand website Spreadshirt.	€1,000 as a prize for a temporary license to produce and sell the print in a limited edition of 500 t-shirts. Some popular designs may be chosen for a reprint and the designer receives €2.46 (pre-tax) for every shirt sold.
	Goodjoe Ongoing and weekly themed contests. With a focus on doing good, this website pumps out new designs every week.	$500 cash, $100 store credit, 6% royalty per shirt sold.
	Split Reason While it is not primarily a t-shirt design contest site they do host an ongoing t-shirt design contest.	$350 + some shirts
	604Republic This site opened in September 2010 by one of the founders of Split Reason and like Split Reason, it is based in Canada.	$500 + $1 per t-shirt sold or 15% of retail sales.
	Springleap I actually had a design printed by this company back when it was still in diapers. I think I earned about $5 from them and have born a grudge ever since. Apart from the measly payment they didn’t give the winners what they had been promised (or possibly just me). They have grown a lot since then though and so have the prizes so I think it is time to forgive them.	$500 for the winner of their open theme contests or $2000 upwards for brand design contests, PLUS – you get a royalty share on any products they produce!
	9 Fountains Singapore based t-shirt designed contest. Monthly themed or free theme contests.	Tiered prizes up to SGD$1000 (about $780)
	Pampling Spanish t-shirt design contest site with 3 languages, English, French and Spanish.	€1200 cash + €300 credit
	The Global Thread Collective Recently changed names from stupidhurts.us.	$2 per shirt.
	Tee Busters New ongoing t-shirt contest site for a daily tee store.	€1.25 per t-shirt with a minimum €50 for selected tees.
	J!NX This is not strictly a t-shirt contest site but they do host a contest that specializes in gamer gear.	$750 + $250 credit
	INK FRUIT Based in India this site has really gone beyond t-shirt designs allowing you to design for tote bags, flip flops and such.	Undisclosed cash prize + t-shirt. [It may be 5,000 rupees (about $125).]
	CANVAS Christian themed t-shirt design contest site.	$1 per shirt up to $3000 including bonuses.
	Tilteed This site has some great tees and great prices but they have been very quiet since last year. Last tweet was in September 2011.	$500.
	Loviu From the Slovakia. I don’t know a lot about this one either.	€200
	MASSCANVAS Monthly contest inspired by a famous artist and unique theme whose Limited-Edition winning tees are sold in support of a featured charitable cause..	5 x $1000 cash prizes per month.
	RU Reppin I never really paid attention to this site for some reason but they have some really nice tees. No contest at the moment apparently so I guess that means it’s not an ongoing thing.	$500 + $2 for each shirt sold within the first 30 days and $1 for every shirt sold between 30 and 60 days.
	Cotton Mango Indian t-shirt design contest. I don’t know much about this one.	$150 plus t-shirt
	Fair & Bare UK-based t-shirt design contest site focuses on ethical issues including the use of fair trade cotton but it’s been a long time since the last new t-shirt. I would wait for them to hold a themed contest before submitting but I have a feeling that the site will shut down without that happening.	£200 (approx $300) up front plus residuals for every 250 shirts sold (I wouldn’t count on it) as well as a t-shirt with your design.
	Uneetee This seemed like it was one of the big dogs in the t-shirt contest site world but it has had very little activity for quite a while. I wouldn’t order from them at this point and doubt there is much point in submitting designs but who knows?	$500 for exclusive rights to use the art for commercial purposes. This site hasn’t been updated for a while so I would be wary.

T-Shirt Contest Site (Foreign language site)	About	Prizes
	Monsieur Poulet French t-shirt design contest. An English version of the site was due in May 2012. Maybe soon?	€2 per shirt
	A Better Tomorrow German ongoing t-shirt design contest site with 8 winners per month.	€250 prize money + €1 per sold shirt.
	Look-zippy French t-shirt contest site. I’m sure it used to be a bilingual website but not any more.	€1,000 for their ongoing contest.
	Camiseteria Brazilian t-shirt contest site with a great catalog. Only Portuguese though so might be difficult to navigate with out appropriate linguistic skills.	R$800 cash + R$500 credit (can be exhanged for R$200 cash)
